First Asia-Europe Symposium on Intelligent Vehicles successful hold in Shanghai

May 22~24, the First Asia-Europe Symposium on Intelligent Vehicles was hold in the Shanghai Oriental Land. This symposium was organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and was jointly funded by the European CyberC3 project and French FACT project.

The opening address was given by Vice General Manager Zhengyin Jiang from the Shanghai Oriental Land, Present Assistant Min Xu from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Deputy Dean Ansheng Zhang from the School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Some international experts were invited to this symposium to give some keynote speeches. Dr. Michel Parent from INRIA introduced the next generation cybercars and their demonstrations in the CityMobil project; Prof. Ming Yang from Shanghai Jiao Tong University summarized the activities in the CyberC3 project; Christian Laugier from INRIA introduced the main activities in the French FACT project, and Prof. Urbano Nunes from Coimbra University described their recent development in cybercars. Nearly 100 researchers from France, China, Singapore, Korea, Japan participated in this symposium.

European CyberC3 project is an international cooperation project, coordinated by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and funded by European Asia IT&C Programme. During this symposium, the CyberC3 driverless public transport system was successful demonstrated in the Shanghai Oriental Land. There are four automated vehicles, five stations, and one central control office in this system. The total length is about 600 meters. The system can be operated in two modes: shuttle mode and calling mode. In the calling mode, the passengers can call the vehicles by stations, mobiles, and internet.

There were nearly 20 oral presentations in this three-day workshop, which provided participants with an opportunity to exchanged brand-new idea and technologies along with discussion on professional research trends in the area.
