On December 28, Dr. Eric Ponthieu from European Economic and
Social Committee visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University. As the Head of Unit
“Transport, Energy, infrastructures and information society”, Dr. Ponthieu gave
a lecture on 7th EU Research Framework Programme: State of Play and
Perspectives. Prof. Guang MENG, dean of the School of Mechanics and Power, meet
Dr. Ponthieu in the morning.

Framework Programme Seven (FP7), with a total budget of €50.521 billion, is the European Commission’s primary research funding mechanism. Its principal aim is to realise the Lisbon agenda for growth and competitiveness. All public and private entities can apply for research funding under FP7, which will run between 2007 and 2013. Chalex identifies sources of funding, primarily within FP7, helps organisations prepare research proposals, and co-ordinates and manages EC-funded projects.
This lecture was chaired by Prof. Ming YANG from the Department of Automation, and nearly 100 teachers and students participated. After the lecture, Dr. Ponthieu answered the questions from the audience, including application procedure, intellectual property, etc. Further discussion with teachers and students working on automated vehicles was made, also.
