Researchers from INRIA Visited SJTU

2006-10-18

From October 17, three researchers from INRIA visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) for one week: Nicolas Simond, Laurent Bouraoui, and Rodrigo Benenson. They are coming from La Route Automatisée(LARA), which is a joint research team between the IMARA team of INRIA and the CAOR team of Ecole des Mines de Paris. These two groups, representing about 50 researchers, engineers and techniciens, have worked together for at least 10 years on the development, integration and experimentation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to improve road transport. They have been involved in numerous research projects financed by industry, by the French government or by the European Commission. One PhD student (Zhiyu XU)  from TongJi University, who will visit Ecole des Mines de Paris soon, also joined this visit.

In the morning of October 18, researcher from INRIA first visited the Research Institute of Robotics located in the XuHui Campus of SJTU. Some PhD students introduced their latest works on intelligent vehicles, including vision navigation, magnet navigation, control, etc. In-depth discussion was made on the vision based localization and vehicle control. In the afternoon, researcher from INRIA went to the MinHang Campus of SJTU, and visited the Department of Automation. A small symposium on intelligent vehicle was held. In this symposium, researchers from INRIA presented their latest work on wireless communication, vision based localization, and planning. After that, researchers from SJTU presented their work on multi-mode vehicle calling, texture based vision localization, CyberSmart vehicle, vision based moving object detection, and simulation of mult-vehicle cooperation. After the discussion, demonstrations of the CyberSmart vehicle were given.
