In May 2005, partners of the CyberC3 Project (SJTU, Coimbra University, COAR(INRIA's partner)), worked together and jointly made one proposal to the Asia-Link Programme. Tsinghua University, which is the best engineering university in China, has also been invited to participate in the new project. This proposal was submitted to EC on May 16, 2005.
The title of this new project is: Euro-Asia Link in Higher Education and Research on Robotics (EA-Robot). The overall objectives are to foster an educational and research cooperation between Europe and Asia, and to develop human resources in the field robotics, particularly in its applications in the Intelligent Transportation System, on one hand, aiming to improve the Asian higher education system; on the other hand, aiming to provide an innovative transport mode based on robotics technology for the Asian sustainable development. The specific objective of this project is to upgrade and enhance the skills of the present and future teachers in the field of robotics.
