The FP6 is the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities, contributing to the creation of the European Research Area and to innovation (2002 to 2006).This Programme has to serve two main strategic objectives: strengthening the scientific and technological bases of industry; encourage international competitiveness while promoting research activities in support of other EU policies. The budget for FP6 is €17.5 billion. Information Society Technologies (IST) is one of 8 thematic Areas in FP6.

In February and March, 2005, two partners of the CyberC3 Project, SJTU and INRIA, worked together with other 9 partners in Europe and Australia, and jointly made one proposal to the FP6 IST 4th Call(FP6-2004-IST-4). The research domain is "eSafety – Co-operative Systems for Road Transport". This proposal has been successfully submitted to FP6 IST on March 22, 2005.
The title of this new application is Cooperative CyberCars (CyberCars-2), which aims at designing and developing a new generation of Cybernetic Transport System capable of undertaking driving maneuvers in cooperation with both road users and road infrastructure. The objectives are:
to develop and demonstrate communication systems for Cybernetic Transport Systems (CTS) which were developed mostly between 2001 and 2004 in the CyberCars and CyberMove projects. These communications should boost the capacity of existing CTS to a level making them more efficient than traditional systems based on private vehicles while improving significantly the safety (zero accident objective).
to demonstrate how these communications can also improve the operation of traditional vehicles equipped with Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) and allow them to operate in fully automatic mode in specific circumstances such as platooning or parking or transform them into cybercars in specific locations (“dual-mode vehicles”).
There are 11 partners in this new application as follow. INRIA will be the coordinator of this Project.
